Stand up, sit down: true or false

A picture, and a word said aloud. If the word is right, everyone stands up; if it's wrong, everyone sits down. Young children learn with their whole body, and you see at a glance who knows the word.

Sample lesson: 8 animal words in Spanish, 2 teams. Free, no account.

How it goes in class

  1. Pick the words; the game chooses a right or a wrong word for each picture.
  2. The picture shows and the word is said aloud (press S to say it again).
  3. Right: the class stands up. Wrong: the class sits down.
  4. Press → to show the answer and, if the word was wrong, the right one.

Tips for teachers

  • Swap the moves to keep it fresh: hands up and hands down, jump and squat, thumbs up and thumbs down.
  • Children who move the wrong way are out until the next picture, for a little extra suspense.
  • Ask the class to say the right word when the answer shows.

Questions teachers ask

How often is the word right?

About half the time, chosen at random for each picture.

Where do the wrong words come from?

From the same topic first, so children have to listen carefully.

Can children who can't read play?

Yes. The word is said aloud; reading is not needed.
