Swat it! A listening race on the board
Up to eight pictures on the board. A word is said aloud, and two children (one from each team) race to touch, point at or swat its picture. On an interactive board, a tap on the right picture shows the answer by itself.
Sample lesson: 8 animal words in Spanish, 2 teams. Free, no account.
- Ages
- 3–8 years
- Players
- The whole class, or 2–4 teams
- Time
- 5–15 minutes
- You need
- A projector, TV or interactive board
How it goes in class
- Pick the words and two or more teams.
- Call one child from each team to the board, each with a swatter or a hand ready.
- The word is said aloud; the first to touch its picture wins the point (keys 1–4).
- Press → for the answer and the next word; press S to hear a word again.
Tips for teachers
- A soft fly swatter or a rolled-up paper makes it a real "swat" game.
- Keep a line of children behind each player so everyone gets a turn.
- For the youngest, play without teams: the whole class points at the picture.
Questions teachers ask
Do I need an interactive board?
No. On a projector, children touch the wall where the picture is; you show the answer with →.
How many pictures are on the board?
Six to eight: the lesson's own words, plus a few from the topic if the lesson is short.
Can children who can't read play?
Yes. They only listen and look at pictures.
